Here's the Thing Vineyards

Here's The Thing Vineyards is a family-owned winery in Oliver offering a selection of red, white, and rosé wines. They operate on a first-come, first-served basis and provide a picnic area for guests.

In 2016, Jamie and Leah McDowell purchased a 10.5-acre vineyard in Oliver, British Columbia, with the vision of creating a small, hands-on winery. They reduced the vineyard to 10 acres to construct essential buildings, focusing on varieties like Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Gamay Noir, Roussanne, and Viognier. Over time, they adjusted plantings to include more Viognier and Merlot, treating the vineyard as a meticulously maintained garden.

The McDowells emphasize sustainability, using organic sprays and implementing solar power to minimize environmental impact. They are also Salmon-Safe certified, reflecting their commitment to protecting local waterways and biodiversity.

Visitors are welcomed without reservations, greeted upon arrival, and provided with a tasting sheet. A self-serve cooler offers meats, cheeses, and snacks, which can be enjoyed in the licensed picnic area alongside a bottle of their wine. The winery also hosts food trucks during the summer, enhancing the tasting experience.
